I fell in love with food. Is that such a sin?
As for the outline, I'm not pleased with it either. I had intended to be very thin but in trying to get the right flow into the linework I kept thickening it, unnecessarily. Oh well, I plan on doing a couple more of these for kicks, and I'll definately try a clean white edge. It makes sense in theory that that will make the white figures as dominant as the black. So thanks for the useful suggestion.
The paper isn't a bag, I collect trashy old paperbacks simply for the blank sheets at the beginning and end of the book (sometimes the middle if it's particularly trashy). So I have no idea what that stain is. I do get a slight thrill, though, in drawing something like this on a page from a filthy novella.

great use of the paperback. i try to get my hands on free hardbacks when i can and use them for painting surfaces. i always love using found surfaces.
