Instant Noodle Culture Vulture

The fragments of ideas that led to this painting have been fermenting in my head for quite a while.

The phrase, "I am an instant noodle culture vulture", was something I simply thought up quite a while before making this painting, but it got stuck in my head like an earworm.

Fast forward several months later - I once had a brief stint as a freelance storyboardist doing television advertisments. The work was trivial and I hated it. One of the projects I was working on was for a pasta commercial and thus the stylistic oodley noodleys on a fork was born.

Fast forward several weeks later - I started doing some of my own research on the ubiquitous instant noodle. I found out that they were developed post WW2, taking a page out of Western consumerism to compensate for the lack of cheap food and fresh produce available to most people as a result of the war. Nowadays, that need has shifted and instant noodles are generally associated with student diets.

There's a story in each one of these pots and they speak of bastardised culture, short attention spans and instant gratification.

However, even I have to admit that they're pretty damn good at 3 am in the morning.
